Korea and Russia agree on space launch facility
Korea’s Science and Technology Ministry yesterday confirmed media reports from Russia that said the two countries have signed a deal to build a rocket-launch facility in Korea. The launch facility for civilian satellites will be built by 2007 in Goheung, South Jeolla province, the ministry said. The Russian Space Agency and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute signed the agreement on Tuesday. The deal, according to a South Korean diplomat in Moscow, will be worth $210 million. A Science and Technology Ministry official said Russia will provide most of the technology for the project, with Korea supplying the funding.
