Local firms lead global display tech

Korea is the world’s top exporter of a range of display technologies, according to a variety of international studies. A study by the Japanese display market survey institute, Technology Systems Research, showed that Samsung SDI is leading the plasma display panel market, and is expected to take a 25 percent by the end of the year, trailed by LG Electronics with a 23 percent market share. Japan’s Matsushita’s share of the market is expected to be 19 percent, while Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma’s is 17 percent. According to Display Search, a U.S.-based market research firm, Samsung SDI’s market share of organic light-emitting diodes is 40 percent, outpacing Taiwan’s Light Display with 33 percent, and Japan’s Pioneer with 25 percent. Display Search said Korean liquid crystal display firms lead the world, with shipments of 49 million units as of October; Taiwan shipped 44 million units.
