Rambus’ patent suit targets Hynix, others
Rambus Inc., a designer of high-speed memory chips, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Korea’s Hynix Semiconductor Inc., Germany’s Infineon Technologies AG and two other chipmakers. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in San Jose, California, says that the four companies’ memory devices infringe 18 patents, Rambus General Counsel John Danforth said. Analysts predict that the type of memory at issue in the lawsuit, DDR2, will be used in an estimated 49 percent of chips for graphics and personal computers by the end of 2005, he said.
