Korea and Turkey sign deal for IT cooperation
On the heels of President Roh Moo-hyun’s pledge to increase Korean investment in Turkey on his visit to the country, Korea’s Information Ministry said yesterday that the two nations agreed to strengthen cooperation in IT-related fields. In Ankara on Friday, local time, Information Minister Chin Dae-je signed a memorandum of understanding with Turkey’s Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim to establish an IT center that will help Korean IT firms start doing business in Turkey. Mr. Chin also gave an explanation on the status of the IT infrastructure in Korea, including usage rates of mobile communications and high-speed Internet, electronic orientation of government administrative duties and current strategies for future technology projects. On Saturday, at a breakfast meeting for Korean and Turkish business persons, the Information Ministry demonstrated Korea’s digital multimedia broadcasting, or DMB technology. DMB is a locally-developed technology that enables interactive broadcasting on mobile devices even when moving at high speeds. by Wohn Dong-hee
