New Mac operating system available here

Local Apple Computer stores yesterday began offering the latest version of the operating system for Macintosh computers. At a press conference in Seoul, Apple Korea demonstrated some of the 200 new features for the Mac OSX version 10.4, which it has dubbed the “Tiger.” One feature is Spotlight, a search technology that enables users to find information stored in their computer. When executed, the program scans the hard disk and finds all files such as documents and photos that contain the search word. Another is iChat AV, a program for free audio and video chatting over the Internet. This program enables 10 people to join an audio conversation and four people to engage in video chatting at high resolution. The Tiger went on the market officially on April 29, and Macintosh buffs stood in line for hours in cities such as San Francisco to buy it. The Tiger’s Korean debut, however, was fairly quiet. The Tiger sells here at 170,000 won ($170) for a single package and 260,000 won for a “family” package. But most existing Mac users can upgrade to it for just 15,000 won. by Wohn Dong-hee
