With CEO ending his term, KT hangs help wanted sign

KT Corp., the country’s largest communications company, said yesterday that it is seeking a replacement for its president and chief executive, Lee Yong-kyung. Mr. Lee has been the head of KT since it came under private management in 2002, and his term ends Aug. 19. The company will receive applications for the position from today to June 13. The new president’s term will last until March 2008. Industry insiders say the new chief of the telecom firm, which has 38,000 workers and 12 trillion won ($11.9 billion) in annual sales, should be able to galvanize a company whose growth has slowed and received a record fine for alleged price fixing. “The communications market is really in a flux, with telecommunications and broadcasting integrating and new services like mobile Internet launching, so the next president needs to be an expert that knows KT and the communications market very well,” an industry official said.
