Samsung and Sun boost cooperation

Samsung Electronics Co. and Sun Microsystems Inc. have decided to strengthen cooperation in developing digital home environments, which provide a single “converged” service for computer networks, televisions and other household appliances. The agreement to strengthen ties was reached at the Samsung-Sun Summit Meeting in Pebble Beach, California, which was held on Thursday, U.S. time. The two companies have held the meeting annually since 2003. This year, Yun Jong-yong, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, and Scott McNealy, chairman and chief executive of Sun Microsystems, attended the meeting. To further strengthen cooperation in research and development, the two companies will also exchange technologies, product information and research results on the next generation of computing systems for corporations. The two companies have already cooperated in the area of interactive digital television by jointly developing Sun’s Java technology and exchanging semiconductor technology. “By strengthening our cooperation in areas where each company is strong, we will be able to cope with the rapidly changing digital business environments,” said an official from Samsung Electronics. by Park Sung-ha
