[NOTICE]Charity flea market set for Sept. 25

A charity flea market is planned for Sept. 25 in Seoul’s World Cup Stadium, with part of proceeds going to provide educational opportunities to children of low-income families. The market is co-hosted by the Joong-Ang Ilbo and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Koreans and expatriates are encouraged to participate in the one-day event, at the northern plaza of the stadium in Sangam-dong, western Seoul, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme for this year’s flea market is “Recycle, Share and Volunteer.” There is no admission fee, but those who come are encouraged to donate new or as-new items. The items will be sorted and some sold at the market, with others distributed to Beautiful Stores nationwide. Beautiful Store is a non-profit chain that sells donated goods and uses the proceeds for charity.
Individuals or companies that wish to set up a table or mat to sell products may apply for a two square-meter spot through the Internet at www.joins.com. About 700 spots are available on a first-booked basis. Participants are encouraged to donate a percentage of their sales to charity, but it is not mandatory. There will also be a children’s flea market with entertainment, such as magic shows and musical performances.
The event is an integral fund-raiser for social groups such as We Start and Beautiful Store. We Start was launched last year to give educational opportunities to children under 12 who live in low-income families. Currently, there are 12 nationwide branches, in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon provinces, among others.
