Samsung expects 33% rise in India sales
Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s third-largest mobile-phone maker, expects sales in India to rise 33 percent because of increased demand for mobile phones and air-conditioners. Samsung expects India sales to exceed 65 billion rupees ($1.5 billion) in 2005, Ravinder Zutshi, deputy managing director of the Indian unit, said in New Delhi yesterday. The Suwon, South Korea-based company had sales in India of 49 billion rupees last year. Samsung expects to gain market share in the world’s second-most populous nation as the country’s 62 million mobile-phone users upgrade to more expensive handsets that have color screens and cameras.
