Motorola inks pact on research center
Motorola Inc., the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, signed a preliminary agreement yesterday with the Korean government to open its second research center here. No financial details have been announced, but the new research lab will focus on applications of electronic tags, mobile payment systems and asset visibility solutions, according to a statement from Motorola’s Korean unit. Motorola plans to announce such details by the end of this year or early next year, the statement said. Motorola, which started operations in Korea in 1967, has a research center in Seoul with a staff of about 500.
