Korea tops the charts in UN telecom ranking

Korea ranks first among 40 major countries in information and telecommunications development, the Ministry of Information and Communication said yesterday. It quoted a recent survey by the International Telecommunications Union. The United Nations body said Korea topped its Digital Opportunity Index, a measure of a country’s level of information technology and telecommunications prowess. Hong Kong and Japan followed Korea in the rankings, with Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, the Netherlands and Switzerland also in the top 10. The survey was released in Tunis at an “information society” meeting there.
