Samsung creates new LCD panel

테스트

Samsung Electronics Co. said it has developed the world’s largest flexible liquid crystal display panel, at 7 inches, which is about double the size of the most recent model and thinner than glass. Using pliable plastic material instead of the conventional rigid glass substrates, the Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display, or TFT-LCD, allows much greater freedom in commercial designs requiring flexible full-color, high-resolution display components, the company said. The item has been optimized for mobile applications such as cell phones and laptop computers. Samsung said the display provides the same color and resolution even when it is bent, because the thickness remains unchanged under all conditions. In ordinary liquid crystal display panels, when the panel is flexed, the liquid crystal fluid compresses on either side, leading to warped images and color. “System designers and manufacturers may also apply the technology to the latest gadgets, such as fashion-enhancing or wearable electronic display designs,” said a Samsung spokesman. Samsung said it has overcome the problem of the plastic substrate’s heat sensitivity, which causes changes in thickness, by using a low-temperature manufacturing process. However, the new product reportedly has another issue to tackle ahead. As it offers a darker and less colorful screen than conventional glass liquid crystal displays, the company will not begin mass production immediately. by Seo Ji-eun, Kim Chang-woo
