Samsung LCD plant ahead of schedule

Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest maker of liquid crystal display panels, said yesterday it would begin mass production at its new LCD plant at the start of next year, four months ahead of schedule. The plant, located in Tangjeong, south of Seoul, has an initial monthly production capacity of 45,000 sheets, the company said in a statement. The new plant is designed to churn out two types of large LCD panels, one 40 inches and the other 46 inches diagonally, for use in large-sized televisions. The first stage of the plant cost 2.4 trillion won ($2.3 billion) to build, the statement said.
