Samsung to invest in chips, flat screens
Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest maker of computer memory chips, said yesterday that it would invest a combined 617.6 billion won ($640 million) to expand its production of chips and flat panel screens. Of the budget, 388.2 billion won will be spent on research and development, infrastructure and upgrading the production lines of its memory chips, Samsung Electronics said in a regulatory filing. In a separate filing, the company announced that it would invest 229.4 billion won to expand production lines for mid-sized liquid crystal display screens.
