[Photo]No longer ‘weird science’
Korea’s first android met with children at an educational center in southern Seoul to celebrate the day before Children’s Day. Named EveR-1 ― a combination of the words “Eve” and “Robot” ― the android is 160 centimeters (5 feet, 3 inches) tall and weighs 50 kilograms (110 pounds). Developed by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, her face alone uses 15 motors to make various expressions. EveR-1 understands 400 words and can hold a simple conversation. However, she can only move her upper body parts. She is the world’s second android ― the first was “Actroid” introduced in Japan in 2003. [YONHAP]
