Dongbu announces new memory chips
Dongbu Electronics Co., a Korean chip foundry maker, said yesterday it has developed NOR flash memory chips based on a 0.13 micron technology for the first time in the industry. The chips are mostly used in mobile handsets because of their high data speeds. Under an alliance with Taiwan’s flash memory design company Eon Silicon Solution Inc., Dongbu Electronics developed the memory chips, which will come in 32, 64 and 128 megabits, it said. The 0.13-micron devices will allow for the development of chips at lower costs, because they are smaller and consume less power than the 0.18-micron chips, the company said.
