Global experts discuss medical physics issues

An international academic conference on medical physics will take place in Korea this week, with more than 2,500 experts from around the globe convening to discuss the promotion of related technologies, government officials said yesterday. The World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering 2006 will be held from today through Friday at the COEX convention center in Seoul, with Prime Minister Han Myung-sook delivering the keynote speech, the Ministry of Science and Technology said. Medical physics, dealing with the application of physics to medicine, generally concerns technologies for medical imaging, such as X-rays and radiotherapy. The triennial council of the Paris-based International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine will present conferences and sessions on up-to-date medical physics studies, and tours and cultural programs for visiting international participants.
