[NOTICE]Market funds to help children

A charity flea market is planned for Sept. 23 at Seoul’s Sangam World Cup Stadium with part of the proceeds going to provide educational opportunities to children of low-income families. The market is co-hosted by the JoongAng Ilbo and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Koreans and expatriates are encouraged to participate in the one-day event from noon to 4 p.m. The theme for this year’s flea market is “Recycle, Preserve the Environment and Share.” There is no admission fee and donations of new or as-new items are encouraged. The donated items will be sorted, with some sold at the market and others distributed to Beautiful Stores nationwide. Beautiful Store is a non-profit organization that sells donated goods and uses the proceeds for charity. Individuals and companies that wish to sell products may apply for a two-square-meter spot through the Internet at www.joins.com from early next week. About 700 spots are available on a first-come-first-served basis. English speakers can reserve spots by emailing or calling (02) 751-9228 before Sept. 15. Participating vendors will be requested to donate 50 percent of their takings.
