Samsung positions firm for digital boom in 2010

BERLIN ― Samsung Electronics’ digital media president Choi Gee-sung said Friday in Berlin that in 2010 the consumer electronics market will see a “digital boom” along with the opening of a “digital golden age.” Simply put, another digital revolution is coming. Mr. Choi spoke at IFA 2006 , a global consumer electronics trade show. Mr. Choi said that in three to four years, demand for digital home appliances will shoot up sharply as consumer experience with digital products accumulates. Like mobile phones today, there will come a time when each individual owns his own television. “There has been a rapid change from analog to digital technology in the last three years. Flat panel televisions, MP3 players and digital broadcasting have all grown,” Mr. Choi said. “Convergence products, including camera phones, digital cameras and many other multifunction devices have emerged.” Samsung is getting ready for the future. It recently bought an additional 165,000 square-meters (197,338 square yards) of land in Hungary to build a plant. Previously Samsung purchased a 155,000 square-meter plant in Hungary. by Nam Dong-woo
