Trigem bidder to be selected after Chuseok; some drop out

Creditors of Trigem Computer Inc. have delayed the decision to select the preferred bidder for their controlling stake in the nation’s embattled personal computer maker until next week, a local court said Wednesday. Trigem Computer, which has been under court receivership since May last year due to heavy debt, is seeking a new owner. Last week, it received potential bidders but only one local computer equipment maker joined in the process. Seven companies, including Lenovo of China, have expressed interest in the takeover, but Samjung KPMG, a lead manager of the sale, said all bidders except Human & Technology dropped their bids. “The announcement on the preferred bidder will be made after the Chuseok harvest holiday which falls between Thursday and Saturday,” said an official of the Suwon District Court, which is in charge of the court receivership. Market observers estimate the acquisition cost for Trigem Computer at 250 billion won ($253.7 million), raising concerns that Human & Technology could not afford to take over Trigem Computer. Human & Technology is a hard drive maker.
