Games to keep fingers warm when the weather gets cold

Bears may be sleeping in their caves, but for human bears, cooped up in their rooms playing games, winter is full of action.
Riding Star, a new online snowboarding game available on NHN’s game portal, Hangame, begins open test services today.
Players race each other down snow-covered hills, and are able to do 20 types of tricks in the air while they compete.
The game was developed by Bluecat Studio, which will continue to update the game with more maps and items that the player can use during the pilot phase.
SK C&C’s Crystal Boarder is more about speed than tricks. Players get to choose from four different character species, including humans, and ride their board on various maps, some of which include non-winter scenes, such as the desert.
Ncsoft has a snowboarding game titled SP Jam, short for Super Park Jam, which ended its third closed test services last week. Kim Won-mi, a spokeswoman for Ncsoft, said that the company is going to work on the feedback they received from players during the test service period and work on updates before entering the next phase of services.
X&B Online, available on the portal site Paran, is also a snowboard racing game, which only recently started open test services.
Other winter sports include ice hockey. Gravity’s online game Body Check Online is more of a street ice hockey game, with no rules that would normally apply to regular league ice hockey.
Moving to the virtual indoors, Xbox and NBA are jointly hosting the first-ever basketball videogame tournament across four Asian countries until next month. The NBA Live 07 Asia Championship is open to anyone over 14 years of age, and uses the game NBA Live 07 developed by Electronics Arts Sports. The winner of the tournament will be able to play the videogame with real NBA players through Xbox Live and get a free ticket to the NBA play-offs in May.
The championship consists of online and offline tournaments, and winners from each country will battle it out at the finals in Taiwan on Feb. 3. On Saturday, Korea’s finals took place at a stage set up in COEX Mall in southern Seoul, where Lee Young-mo, a 19-year old man from the southeastern port city of Pohang took the local title.
