Golfer Pak Se-ri wins full scholarship

Pak Se-ri, 30, the first Korean golfer to win a Ladies Professional Golf Association title, received a four-year scholarship yesterday to attend a Korean university.
Pak was admitted to Sookmyung Women’s University’s School of Political Science and Public Administration, defeating 10 competitors to get into the global leader plan, which acknowledges students who have shown extraordinary skills and won prizes in prestigious competitions abroad.
“I would like to major in international politics to contribute to social and cultural exchanges between Korea and other countries, as I had a lot of experience on the international stage as a professional golfer,” said Pak.
She added, “Women nowadays become global leaders in various fields, and sports is no exception. I would like to master the art of smoothly changing the world at Sookmyung, which is a school that emphasizes leadership.”
Most recently, Pak won the McDonald’s LPGA Championship last year in the United States. She does not plan to retire.
Fellow pro golfer Lee Mi-na was admitted into Sookmyung Graduate School. She will major in golf management, a newly established department.
