World’s boundary lines are focus of Seoul expo

More than 6,000 cadastral (boundary) experts in Korea and abroad are expected to convene in Seoul this week to showcase new technologies for measuring land units and to discuss issues related to land management. State-run Korea Cadastral Survey Corp., which measures land and properties across the country for public administration, said yesterday it would hold the 2007 Cadastral Innovation Expo in COEX, southern Seoul, for three days beginning today.
The attendees include academics and top government officials, experts from some 30 countries including Italy, Swiss, Japan, Hungary and the Netherlands, and officials from the Federation Internationale des Geometres, an international association of cadastral experts. They are expected to discuss issues including how to take advantage of satellite technologies and Google Earth to accurately measure land and properties.
“Korea has some world-class technologies in land measuring based on the global positioning system and satellites,” said Park Seong-eun, a spokesperson for Korea Cadastral Survey. “The event will be a good opportunity for us to showcase our latest technologies and sell them to developing countries like Laos and Mongolia.”
