Carmakers export to 180 countries

Korean automakers exported 670,461 cars to a total of 180 countries worldwide during the first three months of 2007, with the United States importing the most.
According to statistics from the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, Latin American countries accounted for the biggest portion at 24 percent, followed by Africa at 19 percent and Eastern Europe at 15 percent. Next were Asia, Western Europe and the Middle East.
The largest number of vehicles, at 208,325 units, was shipped to North America. Western Europe received 143,846 inbound vehicles from the Korean automakers.
Among countries that received at least 10,000 vehicles, the United States imported 165,590 units, Russia 52,616 units and Germany 28,991 units.
Notably, North Korea, the closest country, imported only one South Korean vehicle.
By car brand, top automaker Hyundai Motor exported to the biggest number of countries at 160.
Korea’s third-largest automaker, GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Co., controlled by General Motors Corp. of the United States, sent their vehicles to 150 countries.
Hyundai’s sister carmaker, Kia Motors Corp., shipped to 140 nations.
Ssangyong Motor Co. exported to 102 countries.
Nations that had export deals with Renault Samsung Motors Co. totaled only 25.
In 2005, Korea’s automakers exported to 192 countries.
In 2006 the number grew to 196 countries.
