Koreans leap into Asian stock market
Individual transactions by Koreans of shares traded on major Asian stock markets jumped sharply this year as their interest in overseas equity markets increased, a state-run stock depository said yesterday.Korean individuals traded $1.37 billion worth of shares listed on the stock markets in China, Hong Kong and Japan as of the end of May this year, compared with $180 million a year ago, according to the Korea Securities Depository.
Korean retail investors’ stock transactions in Hong Kong skyrocketed 827.6 percent year-on-year to $269 million, while those in Japan climbed 626.8 percent to $1 billion and those in China rose 482.4 percent to $990 million.
