Kia walkout to go ahead this week

Workers at Kia Motors Corp., Korea’s second-biggest carmaker, plan to hold partial strikes on three days this week that will raise the automaker’s total lost production in July to 154 billion won ($167 million).
The 28,000-member union will walk out for four hours during both the day and night shifts today, tomorrow and Friday, the union said yesterday.
The carmaker lost production of 2,732 vehicles valued at 39.6 billion won in June as workers staged stoppages as part of wider protests against a free trade deal between Korea and the United States. The workers are asking for an 8.9 percent rise in basic salary for this year with a bonus equal to two months of base salary, according to the company.
