Kolon, NASA strike technology deal

Korea’s leading textile maker Kolon Industries Inc. said yesterday it has signed a contract with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, to use the technology for high-end polyimide films. NASA’s technology, which involves passing electricity through the polyimide film, will be used in parts of color laser printers, Kolon Industries said in a regulatory filing with the Korea Exchange.
Kolon Industries said it plans to produce and sell parts of color laser printers beginning in 2009. The Korean textile maker developed the polyimide film in 2005. Polyimide films are often used in manufacturing flexible circuit boards for electronic goods such as cell phones.
