Sales of electronics boost online shopping malls

Sales at Korea’s online shopping malls rose 13 percent in June from a year earlier, thanks to increased purchases of computer and electronics equipment, a government report showed yesterday.
The combined sales at the cyber shopping malls amounted to 1.2 trillion won ($1.3 billion) in June, up from 1 trillion won a year earlier, the Korea National Statistical Office said in the report.
The combined sales at the shopping malls in the second quarter reached 3.7 trillion won. Sales of computer, electronics and telecommunication equipment contributed to the revenue growth, the report said.
Sales of computers and computer equipment rose to 110.5 billion won in June from 94.6 billion won a year earlier, while those of electronics and telecommunication equipment advanced to 194.8 billion won.
Sales of apparel and fashion items grew to 212.7 billion won from 186.9 billion won.
There were 4,441 cyber shopping malls as of June, compared with 4,472 a year earlier, the report said. Yonhap
