Poly plant resumes partial production

Lotte Daesan Petrochemical Corp., a Korean chemical producer, resumed production of polypropylene after an accident on Aug. 9, company spokesman Kim Eung-jo said.
The company began production at five of its 10 silos at 5 p.m. local time yesterday, Kim said by telephone yesterday. Lotte Daesan will be able to match previous output with just five silos, he said. Lotte Daesan halted polypropylene production and shut five of its 10 silos that store the products after one of the storage tank lids was damaged on Aug. 9. There were no casualties.
Lotte Daesan, a unit of Honam Petrochemical Corp., produces about 250,000 metric tons of polypropylene a year, Kim said. Polypropylene is a building block for plastic packaging and synthetic fibers.
