Slimmed down chip feeds new products
Korea’s Hynix Semiconductor Inc. said yesterday it will develop a new computer memory chip in cooperation with a Swiss memory developer to provide a slimmer and cheaper alternative to existing D-RAMs.The world’s second-largest computer memory-chip maker said that it has signed a license deal with Innovative Silicon ISI S.A. on the use of its related patented technologies to develop the so-called Z-RAMs.
A Z-RAM works without a capacitor so it can be slimmer and cost less to produce than other conventional products, according to Hynix.
Hynix said it will work together with Innovative Silicon to develop the next-generation memory products, with the Korean company paying an unspecified amount of royalties for the use of patents held by the Swiss counterpart. Yonhap
