The Wyverns beat the Doosan Bears 5-2 Monday night at Incheon's Munhak Stadium. Before a capacity home crowd of 30,400, the Wyverns won their fourth straight Korean Series game to become the first team to overcome a 2-0 Korean Series deficit for a title. It was the first championship for SK, which joined the league in 2000.
인천 문학경기장에서 월요일 밤 와이번스는 두산 베어스를 5대2로 이겼다. 3만4백명의 홈그라운드 관중이 지켜보는 가운데 와이번스는 한국시리즈에서 첫 두 경기를 내주고도 4연승을 거두며 한국시리지 우승을 차지한 첫 번째 팀이 됐다. 2000년에 출범한 SK에게는 첫 번째 한국시리즈 우승이었다.

But SK Manager Kim Sung-keun didn't panic. In fact, after the second loss, he said, "The last time I checked, it takes four wins to claim the Korean Series." And his team got those four wins to give Kim, the oldest KBO manager at 64, his first championship ring in an on-and-off managerial career that began in 1984.

그러나 SK 김성근 감독은 침착했다. 실제로 한국시리즈 두 번째 경기를 지고서도 그는 "내가 알기로는 한국시리즈를 우승하려면 4경기를 이겨야 해."라고 말했다. 그리고 그의 팀은 그 4경기를 이겨줘서 1984년에 감독생활을 시작한 64세의 KBO 최고령 감독에게 생애 첫 번째 한국시리즈 우승반지를 선사했다.

"This just feels so surreal," Kim told reporters after the game Monday. "Our players grew up so much with this series. Everyone did what he was supposed to do as an important member of the team."

During the 126-game regular season, Kim changed his lineup almost daily, and no one played the entire season. He also put veterans in competition for playing time against second- and third-year players at several positions. Right fielder Lee Jin-young, who plays on the Korean national team, started the opening Korean Series game and then rode the bench the rest of the series. But in the end, Kim's strategic moves seemed to pay off.

정규시즌 126 경기를 치르는 동안 김 감독은 선발 라인업을 거의 매일 바꿨고 단 한 선수도 정규시즌의 모든 경기에 출전하지 못했다. 그는 여러 포지션에서 베테랑 선수들이 2~3년 차 선수들과 선발출전 경쟁을 하도록 만들었다. 한국국가대표팀 우익수 이진영은 한국시리즈 첫 경기에 선발출전 했으나 나머지 경기에서는 벤치에 머물렀다. 그러나 결국은 김 감독의 전략이 성과를 거둔 것 같다.
