뛰어난 재능을 가진 두 부부의 금실도 좋았다. 조맹부는 예전의 사대부들이 흔히 했던 것과 같은 축첩에 눈을 돌리지 않았다. 부부간의 사랑이 깊어 칭송이 저잣거리에 나돌기도 했다. 그러나 한때 위기가 닥친 적이 있다. 조맹부가 요즘으로 치면 가수라고 할 수 있는 한 여인에게 정신을 팔리고 만 것.
