Despite upgrade, Honda prices hold

Although Honda Korea released an upgrade of its best-selling Ac-cord sedan yesterday, the company kept the price of the new model the same as its predecessor. The move brings expectations for tighter competition in Korea’s large sedan market.
The Japan-based company set the price of the new 2,400cc engine Accord sedan at 34.9 million won ($37,200) and at 39.4 million won for the 3,500cc engine.
The upgraded model is 80 millimeters longer and 25 millimeters wider than the previous version. The new model also features a Variable Cylinder Management system to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
Honda’s sales in Korea surged 82 percent last year, with its market share increasing to 13.3 percent from 10 percent in 2006. Honda took the third position in the Korean import car market last year, after BMW and Toyota.
