LG loses for forcing customer soliciting


Four LG Group affiliates were given correction orders, with three fined a total of 690 million won ($731,700), by the antitrust agency for forcing their employees to solicit customers for LG Powercom’s high-speed Internet package.
The Fair Trade Commission release said yesterday that it reprimanded LG Chem, LG Electronics, LG Micron and LG Powercom, an Internet service provider. LG Powercom was find 324 million won, LG Chem 188 million won and LG Electronics 179 million won.
According to the FTC, LG Powercom, an Internet service provider, began a promotion in June 2006 to enroll 500,000 customers through employees at all LG Group affiliates.
