HUFS celebrates new English dorm, extension

If the globalization of a Korean college is measured by the number of foreign embassies it works closely with, then Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) is the undisputed leader of the pack.
The Seoul-based college teaches 42 foreign languages, each with support from embassies of the countries where those languages are the mother tongue.
Hankuk’s relationship with the embassies was in evidence last Friday, when 60 people, including 30 ambassadors and diplomats from 51 countries, participated in an event hosted by Hankuk.
The occasion was to celebrate the completion of an English-speaking dormitory, named “Glodbee Dorm,” as well as the extension of the main building of the school.
“The new buildings and extension symbolize the growth and prosperity of our school. It shows our commitment to investing in the future,” said Park Chul, the president of the university during the reception. “I would like to request cooperation from embassies in providing quality college education to students.”
The event included student performances of traditional music and folk dances from five countries, including Spain, Malaysia and Russia. Kwon Jong-rak, Korea’s first vice minister of foreign affairs and trade, also attended.
