FC Seoul player nominated for prestigious award

Ki Sung-yeung of FC Seoul has been nominated for the AFC Youth Player of the Year award. The 20-year-old midfielder, who is a mainstay on the national team, will leave for Malaysia today to attend the award ceremony. Ki decided to attend the awards after his team was eliminated by the Chunnam Dragons in the K-League Championship on Saturday. The other nominees for the award include Kim Min-woo of the U-20 World Cup team and Ahmed Khalil of U.A.E. as well as two others.

Ki scored four goals in 17 matches for the national team and also played a key role for FC Seoul this year. He is set to join the Celtic FC of the Scottish Premier League in January.

National team manager Huh Jung-moo, who has been nominated for Manager of the Year, will also attend the award ceremonies. The Pohang Steelers, which won the AFC Champions League, have been nominated for Club of the Year honors. The award ceremony will be held tomorrow at the Shangri-la Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
