[NEW RELEASES] Corinne Bailey Rae

테스트

Corinne Bailey Rae was the darling of the music world, had a hit album that was No. 1 in Britain and was happily married. Life was good. But it all came crashing down in 2008 when her husband died from an overdose.

After a two-year hiatus, she released “The Sea,” and it seems to contain all the emotional highs and lows one goes through following the death of a loved one.

It is at times mournful and at others hopeful, her voice soaring over melodies infused with a mellow, bluesy R&B sound. The guitar licks underlying what at first seems like sweetness, give the songs their roots, exposing a grittiness and passion just below the surface.

In “Are You Here,” she struggles with the disbelief that comes with loss: “Are you here, cause my heart recalls that it all seems the same.” But in “I Would Like to Call it Beauty,” where “We danced into tomorrow on bleeding feet/ And I had thought that I would die here/ But you pushed me on,” she’s come through to the other side. It’s a beautiful place for such a promising young artist to be. By Jenny Na
