[SPORTS BRIEFS] BASEBALL

Dec 13,2010
Choo Shin-soo, 28, of the Cleveland Indians was named the Tribe’s Man of the Year by the Cleveland chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

The right fielder won the award last season after hitting .300 with 20 home runs and 20 steals. He hit .300 with 22 home runs and 22 steals this season, becoming only one of three MLB players this season to reach the .300/20/20 plateau.

Since the award’s inception in 1968, only two other players have won back-to-back honors. Carlos Baerga won the award in the 1991 and 1992 seasons and Manny Ramirez in the 1998 and 1999 seasons.
