Park Chu-Young nets 2 goals in Monaco draw

PARIS - Third-worst Monaco went up 2-0 thanks to Park Chu-Young’s brace, but finished in a 2-2 draw at home with Caen in their Ligue 1 matchup.

Park has now scored nine goals on the season. If Park reaches 10, he will become only the third Korean player after Cha Bum-kun and Seol Ki-hyeon to score 10 goals in a season for a European team.

Cha scored 10 goals or more in eight consecutive seasons in the German Bundesliga and Seol achieved the feat twice in the Belgian First Division league.

Park scored five goals in his debut season after signing with AS Monaco in September 2008 and has gone on to become a starter in the following seasons. Park scored nine goals last season.

Park has scored 15 goals in 49 games for the Korean national football team since 2005 and was recently named team captain to replace the retired Park Ji-sung.

In Saturday’s other games, Stade Rennais rocketed to the top of Ligue 1 for at least a day after a 25-meter screamer from Razak Boukari set up a 2-0 home win over lowly Racing Lens on Saturday.

Rennais - which has never won the French championship - is making a surprise title bid under charismatic Corsican coach Frederic Antonetti. It moved a point above Lille ahead of their home game with title rivals Olympique Lyon on Sunday.

Togo striker Boukari fired into the top corner after a fortunate ricochet at the 14-minute mark and the club from the northwest of France, ninth last term, never looked back.

They doubled the lead against the second-bottom visitors when Colombian Victor Montano beat the offside trap and showed pace and power to finish midway through the second half.

Unfashionable Rennais and Lille have threatened to overturn the status quo in French football this season, but traditional powerhouses Olympique Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain are also still in the hunt for the championship in a crowded top half.

Champions Marseille, four points behind Rennais in third, travel to AS Nancy on Sunday when fifth-placed PSG hosts Toulouse.

Last-place AC Arles-Avignon were held 1-1 by Stade Brest in Provence.

Nice eased their relegation fears and further hit faltering St. Etienne’s push for the Champions League places with a surprise 2-0 win at Les Verts. Sochaux and sixth-place Montpellier drew 0-0 with a red card apiece and FC Lorient’s trip to Valenciennes also ended in stalemate.

Under pressure, Girondins Bordeaux faced another test in Saturday’s late match when his midtable side - fresh from the mysterious departure of assistant coach Michel Pavon during the week - hosted fourth-from-last Auxerre. Bordeaux cruised to a 3-0 victory.

프랑스 리그 진출 이후 세 번째, 이번 시즌 두 번째 멀티골을 기록하며 정규리그 9골을 기록한 박주영은 지난 시즌 정규리그 기록(정규리그 8골·컵대회 1골)을 넘어서며 첫 두 자릿 수 득점을 노려보게 됐다. 박주영은 시즌 종료까지 13경기를 남겨두고 있다. 유럽 리그에서 한 시즌에 두자릿수 득점을 올린 한국 선수는 차범근(독일 분데스리가)과 설기현(벨기에) 두 명 뿐이다. 프랑스 스포츠전문지 레퀴프는 박주영에게 팀내 두 번째로 높은 평점 6점을 줬다.
　
박주영의 맹활약에도 불구하고 AS모나코는 캉과 2-2로 비겼다. 2-0으로 앞서던 후반 22분 엘 아라비에게 추격골을 내준 AS모나코는 5분 뒤 요한 몰로에게 동점골까지 내줬다. 승점 1점 추가에 그친 모나코는 4승13무8패(승점25)로 강등권인 18위에 머물렀다. 강등을 당하지 않는 17위 오세르(승점26)와 승점 차는 겨우 1점이다. 하지만 AS모나코가 최근 5경기에서 1승2무2패를 기록하는 등 부진에 빠져있서 추격이 쉽지 않아 보인다.
