Defeat, loss for Korean Wanderer

Bolton, which was looking for its fifth FA Cup title since last lifting the cup in 1958, was trailing 3-0 by halftime before succumbing to Stoke City’s attackers in the second half.
Bolton conceded two more goals to Stoke City forward Jon Walters in the second half, resulting in a clean sheet for the Potters.
Lee, Bolton’s 22-year-old Korean winger, played the full 90 minutes but was unable to make an impact on the score in front of the 75,000 fans watching at Wembley Stadium in London.
This was the second disappointment for Korean football fans, who watched Manchester United’s Park Ji-sung lose to Manchester City on Saturday, eliminating his team from the FA Cup.
After the game, Ilgan Sports sat down for a conversation with Lee.
Q. What do you think about the results of the match?
A. We had several good chances, but it’s just a shame. I’m really disappointed about how things ended.
Do you think that the whole team was having problems?
We just weren’t lucky and it was difficult for us to recover after that first goal, which was the result of a mistake on our side. But I think it was also a good experience for us.
There were a lot of Bolton supporters in the stands, hoping to see you get to the finals.
There were a lot of fans there, and when I saw them leaving the stadium after we conceded the fourth goal, I felt awful. We lost the game without having a chance to show our strength.
But I promise that we will play the rest of the season in good form.
What do you think about your own performance in the game?
I couldn’t play the way I wanted to. For me, this was the most disappointing game of the season.
You also experienced a big loss against Argentina at the last World Cup. What is the difference between the two?
This loss is more disappointing because I never thought we would lose to Stoke City by this score. We beat them in league games and I’m disappointed that we made so many mistakes and lost the game at this very important stage.
How is the team going to prepare for the rest of the season?
Our team doesn’t have many games left, but I’ll try to get as many goals and assists as I can for Korean football fans. We’ll try to turn things around by winning against Arsenal on Sunday.
Korean national team head coach Cho Kwang-rae was watching the match from the stadium. Have you spoken to him?
We didn’t talk long, but he encouraged me to play well. I feel bad that he came from Korea to see the game.

FA컵 결승진출 고지를 앞에 두고 있던 볼턴이 18일(한국시간) 스토크 시티에게 0-5라는 큰 점수 차로 패했다. 볼턴은 큰 점수로 졌던 탓인지 공동취재구역임에도 불구하고 선수들에게 인터뷰 요청을 자제했다. 그러나 취재진들의 반발로 어렵사리 인터뷰가 진행되었다. 어두운 표정의 이청용을 만날 수 있었다.
-결과가 만족스럽지 않은데.
"좋은 기회가 왔었는데 많이 아쉽다. 이번 시즌 최악의 경기였던 것 같다. 허무하게 끝나 아쉽다."
-팀 전체적으로 어떤 문제가 있었다고 생각하나.
"운도 따르지 않았고, 실책으로 선제골을 내주어 회복이 힘들었다. 하지만 좋은 경험이라고 생각한다."
-볼턴 팬도 많이 왔고, 결승진출에 대한 팀의 기대가 컸을 텐데.
"많은 팬 들이 와주셨는데 후반전 네 번째 실점에 자리를 떠나는 팬들을 보니 매우 안타까웠다. 제대로 힘도 써보지도 못하고 경기에 졌다. 하지만 남은 경기를 잘 치러 시즌을 잘 마무리하겠다. "
-본인 플레이에 대한 평가를 내리자면.
"제대로 플레이를 펼치지 못하고 힘없이 져버려서 매우 아쉽다. 이번 시즌에서 가장 후회스러운 경기다."
-이번 경기는 소속팀에 큰 점수차로 졌고, 월드컵 때는 국가대표팀에서 아르헨티나에 큰 점수차로 졌는데 차이점이 있다면.
"전력상 볼턴이 이렇게 큰 점수로 질 수 있다고 생각하지 않아 더 아쉽다. 리그경기에서 충분히 이겼던 팀임에도 불구하고 오늘 같은 중요한 경기에서 실수가 많아 좋은 결과를 얻지 못해 아쉽다."
-오늘 경기 결과는 아쉽지만, 잉글랜드 축구 성지인 웸블리 구장에서 경기를 뛰었는데 개인적인 소감은.
"굉장히 좋은 경험이었다고 생각한다. 이렇게 큰 경기장에서 뛸 수 있어 기뻤다. 스토크 시티의 경기도 좋았다. 결승전에서의 행운을 빈다."
-이제 팀은 분위기를 추스르고 남은 경기에 집중해야 할 것 같은데.
"많은 경기가 남아있지는 않지만 최대한 많은 골과 도움을 기록하도록 노력해서 한국의 팬들의 기대에 보답하겠다. 곧 강 팀 아스날과 경기가 남아있는데 그 경기에서 승리해 분위기를 반전시켜보겠다."
-조광래 국가대표 감독님이 경기장에 방문하셔 직접 경기를 보셨는데 어떤 대화를 나누었나.
"많은 대화를 나누진 않았지만 오늘 경기 잘하라며 격려해 주셨다. 멀리서 오셨는데 좋은 경기를 보여드리지 못해 아쉽다."
