2011.5.13 Weekend Picks: K-League

* Daejeon Citizen FC (3-3-3) at Chunnam Dragons FC (4-1-4)
* Gwangyang Football Stadium, Gwangyang, South Jeolla
* Tomorrow, 3 p.m.

Daejeon is looking to end its five-game winless streak (two draws and three losses) against Chunnam tomorrow.

Chunnam is known for its solid defense line, but lacks firepower. The team hopes striker Ji Dong-won can help Chunnam to a fifth league victory and continue his recent success - Ji scored his first K-League goal last week against the Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

Daejeon heavily relies on Brazilian striker Querino da Silva, who is the third leading scorer in the league with five goals.

Chunnam has a slightly better head-to-head record over the course of K-League history, leading Daejeon with 18 wins, 13 draws and 14 losses.

* Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (6-1-2) at FC Pohang Steelers (5-3-1)
* Steelyard Stadium, Pohang, North Gyeongsang
* Sunday, 3 p.m.

This game should be the highlight of the first half of K-League action. Some experts are already saying that this match might be a preview of the league championship game. The two teams also are tied in their all-time head-to-head record with 21 wins, 17 draws and 21 losses.

Jeonbuk, which is on a four-game winning streak, is known for its strong attack, having scored 22 goals in nine games. Former Pohang player Lee Dong-guk leads Jeonbuk’s attack with six goals and four assists.

Pohang, which received its first defeat of the season last week, will try to recapture the league’s top spot with solid defense and a workmanlike midfield. The club has allowed just six goals this season, the best record in the league.
