DiCaprio, Depp top list of best-paid actors

NEW YORK - Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp, actors who alternate between box office blockbusters and quirky, independent films, topped the list of Hollywood’s highest-earning actors, Forbes.com said on Monday.

“Hollywood careers are built on smart (and not always obvious) choices,” Forbes said in its annual look at the film world’s best-paid stars. It added that DiCaprio and Depp, who earned $77 million and $50 million respectively, are living proof of that.

Funnyman Adam Sandler, who earned $40 million, captured the No. 3 spot while Will Smith and Tom Hanks were close behind, at $36 million and $35 million.

DiCaprio, who vaulted from fifth to first place, had two box office hits last year, “Shutter Island” and “Inception,” which between them earned more than $1 billion. Next, he’ll play FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover and the title role in “The Great Gatsby.”

Depp, last year’s top-paid actor, continues to sell tickets with his foppish turn as Jack Sparrow in the popular “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

디카프리오, 조니 뎁 제치고 할리우드男 `소득 1위`

레오나르도 디카프리오가 지난 1년 간 할리우드에서 가장 많은 수익을 올린 배우가 됐다.

경제 매체 포브스는 2일(한국시간) 할리우드 남자 배우들을 대상으로 한 해 동안 이들이 벌어들인 수입을 분석했다.

분석 결과에 따르면 1위는 총 수익 7700만 달러(한화 약 809억 원)의 디카프리오에게 돌아갔다. 지난해 5위권에 머물렀던 것에서 4계단이나 껑충 뛰어 오른 성적이다.

영화 ‘타이타닉’으로 일약 스타덤에 오른 그는 또래 배우들이 로맨틱 코미디 같은 가벼운 장르에 출연하며 인기를 얻은 것에 반해 시나리오에 집중, 작품성 있는 영화들을 선택해왔다. 그 결과 부와 명성이란 두 마리 토끼를 잡게 됐다는 게 포브스의 설명이다.

지난해 개봉한 마틴 스코시즈 감독의 `셔터 아일랜드`와 크리스토퍼 놀란 감독의 `인셉션`이 동반 히트시켜 다른 남자 배우들에 역전승을 거뒀다.

그런가 하면 직전 조사에서 정상의 자리에 올랐던 조니 뎁은 한 계단 내려앉았다. 그는 지난해 5월부터 일 년 간 5000만 달러(한화 약 525억 원)의 수입을 올려 상위권에 안착했다.

이어 3위는 코미디 영화에 주로 출연하는 배우 아담 샌들러가 차지했다. 지난해 ‘그로운 업스’ 제작 및 주연을 맡은 그는 4000만 달러(한화 약 420억 원)를 벌었다.

더불어 영화 `맨 인 블랙 3`의 윌 스미스는 3600만 달러(한화 약 378억 원)로 4위, 애니메이션 ‘토이스토리3’ 목소리 연기를 한 톰 행크스가 3500만 달러(한화 약 367억 원)의 수익으로 그 뒤를 이었다.
