In a first, women host Busan festival opener
It is the first time the ceremony will be hosted by two women, instead of a man and woman as in the past.
“We wanted to change the usual format of having a male and female host,” said Kim Jung-yoon, head of the festival’s public relations team.
Um has appeared in hit films such as “Bad Couple” (2010) and “Like You Know It All” (2008). Yeh has worked with famous Korean directors such as Im Kwon-taek in “Hanji” (2010) and Hong Sang-soo in “On the Occasion of Remembering The Turning Gate” (2002).
This is not the only change for the festival, which changed its name last year to reflect the common spelling of the city name. This year the festival will be held in its own space, the newly built Duraeraum, or Busan Cinema Center. This is also the first festival without Kim Dong-ho, who had directed the festival since its inception and retired last year.
Meanwhile, festival organizers also announced a list of overseas guests expected to attend the festival, including Chinese actress Tang Wei, famous for “Lust, Caution” (2007), French director and producer Luc Besson and Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
The film festival runs from Oct. 6 to 14.

엄지원-예지원, 부산국제영화제 개막식 사회자 선정
배우 예지원과 엄지원이 제16회 부산국제영화제 개막식 사회자로 선정됐다.
22일 부산국제영화제 조직위원회에 따르면 1996년 처음 영화제가 열린 이래 여성 투톱 사회자가 선정된 것은 이번이 처음으로, 두 배우는 다음 달 6일 부산 영화제 전용관인 `영화의 전당`에서 열리는 제16회 부산국제영화제 개막식 무대에 함께 선다.
엄지원은 `똥개`에서의 맛깔스러운 사투리 연기로 주목받기 시작해 `주홍글씨`, `극장전`, `가을로` 등 다양한 영화 작품과 브라운관에서 많은 활약을 펼쳐 대중들의 사랑을 받고 있다.
지난 2007년 부산영화평론가협회상 여우주연상을 받으며 부산영화제와 인연을 맺은 예지원은 지난 2008년 배우 조재현과 함께 부산국제영화제의 폐막식 사회를 맡은 바 있다. 올해는 개막식 사회자로서뿐 아니라 `한국영화의 오늘: 파노라마` 섹션에 초청된 `달빛 길어올리기`와 미드나잇 패션 초청작 `더 킥`의 배우 자격으로도 부산을 찾는다.
예지원은 2002년 `생활의 발견`을 통해 주목을 받은 후 브라운관과 스크린을 넘나들며 개성 넘치는 연기를 선보여 왔다.
한편 제16회 부산국제영화제는 다음달 6일부터 9일간 70개국 307편의 작품을 상영한다.
