Ji Dong-won sets up goal but victory elusive

Sunderland striker Ji Dong-won marked his first assist in the English Premier League on Monday.

At the away match with Norwich City, the 20-year-old replaced Sebastian Larsson in the 67th minute and helped Kieran Richardson score in the 86th. Richardson, a former Manchester United player, drilled a low-angled shot into the bottom-right corner after receiving a pass from the Korean.

For Ji, it was his second major contribution to the team after he also scored his debut goal in the game against Chelsea on Sept. 10.

But despite the last minute effort, Sunderland lost 2-1.

Leon Barnett put the Canaries ahead in the 31st minute after winger Elliott Bennett had skipped into the right side of the penalty area and delivered a low cross for the defender to slot into the net from close range.

Wales forward Steve Morison powered in a header just three minutes after the start of the second half to cement the lead.

The loss puts the Black Cats 14th in the league table with five points, while newly promoted Norwich moved up to ninth with eight points from six matches. Sunderland will next play West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

선덜랜드 지동원, 시즌 첫 도움 쐈다

잉글랜드 프리미어리그 선덜랜드의 공격수 지동원(20)이 시즌 첫 도움을 기록했다.

지동원은 26일(한국시간) 영국 노리치 캐로우 로드에서 열린 정규리그 6라운드 노리치 시티 FC와 원정 경기에서 팀이 0-2로 뒤지던 후반 22분, 팀 동료 라르손과 교체 투입되어 경기가 종료될 때 까지 약 25분간 그라운드를 누볐다. 측면 공격수로 나온 지동원은 정확한 패스 연결과 성공률 높은 공중 볼 장악 능력을 보이며 선덜랜드의 반격을 이끌었다. 후반 41분에는 리차드슨에게 감각적인 패스를 연결하며 자신의 프리미어리그 첫 번째 도움이자 두 번째 공격 포인트를 기록했다. 지동원으로선 지난 첼시와의 경기에서 시즌 마수걸이 골을 기록한 이후 2주일 만에 공격포인트를 추가했다.

한편 선덜랜드는 지동원이 투입된 이 후 볼 점유율을 높이며, 만회 골을 기록하는 등 반전의 기회를 노렸다. 그러나 아쉽게도 추가골을 만들어내지 못하며 결국 홈팬들의 일방적인 응원에 힘입은 노리치에 승점 3점을 내줬다. 경기 직 후 선덜랜드의 언론 담당관 앤드류 리스고 씨는 “지동원이 후반전에 경기를 만회하지 못한 것에 대해 팀 동료들과 아쉬움을 감추지 못했다. 동료들과 샤워 후 바로 경기장을 떠났다”고 전했다.

이번 경기로 리그 14위(1승2무3패)가 된 선덜랜드는 내달 1일 리그 19위로 최하위권에 머물고 있는 웨스트 브로미치와 프리미어리그 7라운드를 치른다.
