Lee firing on all cylinders as Jeonbuk wins in ACL

Lee Dong-gook’s four goals helped Jeonbuk Motors to a 6-1 victory over Cerezo Osaka and sent the team into the Asian Champions League semifinals where it will play Al Ittihad, who lost 1-0 to FC Seoul.

Mauricio Molina’s late goal wasn’t enough for Seoul as the Saudi Arabian outfit advanced from the quarterfinal stage 3-2 on aggregate.

Osaka won the first leg of its quarterfinal 4-3 but lost that advantage in the 31st minute after Eninho scored for Jeonbuk.

Lee put the Koreans ahead with the first of his four goals, while Kim Dong-chan also scored for Jeonbuk, leading to a convincing victory that surprised even coach Choi Kang-hee.

“Elimination never crossed our minds but then we never thought that we would win by such a big margin,’’ Choi said.

“It wasn’t just about Lee Dong-gook - the reason we won so convincingly was because the entire team played well.’’

Elsewhere, Al Ittihad’s staunch defense ensured it advanced after having won the first leg 3-1.

The Saudi club held Seoul until former Colombian international Molina curled his shot into the top-right corner of the net.

Jeonbuk and Al Ittihad will meet for the first-leg of their semifinal on Oct. 19.

이동국, ACL 득점 역사 갈아치울까?

이동국(32·전북)이 아시아축구연맹(AFC) 챔피언스리그 골의 역사를 하나씩 갈아치우고 있다.

이동국은 27일 세레소 오사카(일본)와 8강 2차전 홈경기에서 4골을 넣었다. 6골이던 하태균(수원)을 제치고 9골로 득점 선두에 올라섰다. 챔피언스리그 통산득점도 13골로 늘어났다. 제2의 전성기를 이어가고 있는 이동국의 득점행진은 준결승에도 이어질 전망이다. 이제 그의 득점 하나하나가 10년차를 맞은 AFC 챔피언스리그의 역사를 바꿀 수 있다.

챔피언스리그 한 시즌 최다 득점은 2009년 감바 오사카에서 뛰던 레안드로의 10골이다. 역대 유일한 두 자릿수 득점이다. 그 이전까지는 9골이 최고였다. 이동국이 준결승 2경기에서 2골 이상을 기록하면 기록경신이 가능하다.

이동국은 7년간 이어온 김도훈(전 성남)의 역대 최다골 기록 12골을 넘어섰다. 김도훈 성남 일화 코치는 2003년 3골, 2004년 9골로 한국선수 중 가장 많은 골을 넣은 선수로 군림해왔다. 이제 이동국의 목표는 역대 아시아 최고기록을 향한다. 한 시즌 최다득점 기록을 갖고 있는 레안드로(알 사드)는 챔피언스리그 무대에서 19골을 넣었다. 2009년 감바 오사카에서 10골, 그리고 최근 2년간 알 사드(카타르)에서 9골을 기록했다. 알 사드는 올시즌 8강에 올라 세파한(이란)과 경기결과에 따라 준결승 진출이 가능하다.

알 이티하드(사우디아라비아)의 베테랑 공격수 모하메드 누르가 15골로 2위에 올라 있다. 알 이티하드는 준결승 진출에 성공했다. 2009년 포항 스틸러스의 우승 주역 '마빡이' 데닐손이 14골로 그 다음이다. 모두 이동국이 넘어야 할 대상이다.
