[Sponsored Report] GS Caltex looks to share green philosophies

GS Caltex has been pursuing social contribution activities to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities under the catchphrase “Beautiful World through Energy Sharing.” In 2005 GS Caltex organized a department to be fully in charge of its social contributions.

The GS Caltex social contribution activities come under two major themes: “Green Sharing,” to create a green environment through sharing, and “Community Involvement,” which pursues continuous contributions and encourages communities to stand on their own instead of just being the recipient of one time support activities.

To fulfill these themes, GS Caltex is conducting a children’s environment awareness class and is aiming to help the environment and neglected neighbors through its volunteer activities.

In addition, in Yeosu there is an English class organized by GS Caltex which aims to help improve the English communication skills of people in the area who do not have a good English learning environment. This program started in 2007.

GS Caltex set up the GS Caltex Foundation in August 2006 and is participating in activities in fields like art, culture and education.

From 2006 to 2015 GS Caltex plans to donate 10 billion won annually to the GS Caltex Foundation to raise a total of 100 billion won. This fund has become the base for various activities including scholarships and programs related to art and culture, along with Yeosu Cultural Arts Park construction project.

On November 5, 2009 the company held a ground breaking ceremony for Yewulmaru. The 100 billion won Yewulmaru construction project will build a 694,214 square meter park near Mount Mangma and Jangdo in Yeosu. The park will have a 1,000 seat performance hall, a 300 seat small theater, an energy promotion hall and a seaside pedestrian walk. The park will be designed as a resting place for the citizens. Construction is due to be completed by 2015.

Meanwhile, GS Caltex has started the “Global Energy Plus Cambodia Support Project” which is an overseas environment refugee relief program, started to set up a public image that fulfills its “Green Sharing” philosophy.

The Global Energy Plus volunteer group members visited Cambodia for volunteer activities in August this year.
