Singer Park Ji-yoon to star in second season of ‘Opera Star’

Singer Park Ji-yoon has confirmed that she will star in the reality show, “Opera Star 2012,” which is a Korean version of the hit British show “Popstar to Operastar.”

A representative from the show also verified that Park is the first of eight celebrity contestants engaged to star in the program. No other contestants have been named.

Park said she is excited about taking part in a show of which she has long been a fan.

“I’ve been a huge fan of the show and loved seeing a new side of the featured celebrities in the first season,” she said. “I’ve wanted to have a go at opera for some time, so when the producers called and asked me if I was interested, I accepted without a second thought.”

Producers have said they thought the star would be able to take on the challenge as she studied professional singing at university.

“We can’t wait to see what Park will do on the show,” a representative from the program said. “She’s a unique singer known for her vocal technique and tone so we have no doubt that she will be able to pull off the opera genre.”

In the show’s first season last year, singer Tei placed first, a designation that also gave her the opportunity to produce an album with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Though best known as a singer, Park has also appeared in various dramas and movies throughout her career. She made her television debut in a commercial in 1994. As a singer, she released her first solo album in 1997.
