Hyundai chief honored for aid in bagging Yeosu Expo 2012

Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo received the highest level of decoration from the government yesterday for his contribution to win a bid to host the Yeosu Expo, which will be held later this year, the company said in a release.

According to Hyundai, the government notified Hyundai that it would grant the Medal of the Rose of Sharon to Chung.

Chung, as an honorary chairman of the 2012 Expo’s organizing committee, toured foreign countries to help the country host the international event.

In April 2007, Hyundai formed a task force within the group. Since then, Chung has traveled 126,000 kilometers (78,300 miles) and met 150 government officials.

Hyundai, an official sponsor of the event, plans to buy 200,000 tickets for the Yeosu Expo and distribute them to low-income households.
