DRUNKEN TIGER, “The Cure”, Label: Universal Music, Genre: Rap / Hip-hop

I knew Tiger JK and his wife, Yoon Mi-rae, would never let me down. Drunken Tiger’s new album, “The Cure,” featuring Yoon and hip-hop musician Bizzy is quite unlike the usual hip-hop songs.

The album, which is their ninth, is dubbed “healing hip-hop,” with “heartwarming lyrics” on top of a soft rhythm.

Most of the songs send out the message, “Although it’s difficult, let’s endure. Let’s live, although it’s painful. Then one day, you’ll be able to smile,” as the lyrics go in “The Cure.” The song ends with the innocent laughter of a baby boy, probably Tiger JK and Yoon’s son, giving listeners a smile.

It’s certainly quite a change from the current mood of the Korean hip-hop scene, in which artists take turns slandering each other on Twitter.

Other tracks such as “Beautiful Life” and “Sweet Dream” make you think positively about life.

Maybe that optimism pushed through, as “The Cure” topped numerous local music charts with other musicians giving thumbs-up to the hip-hop couple.

Fans waited five years for the new album, but it was worth the wait.
