Rain meets with 3,000 fans

Singer Rain held his first “fan meet” Saturday since being discharged from military service in July, entertaining some 3,000 fans with stories, videos and a couple of songs.

A “fan meeting” is not a concert per se, but a more personal event where a celebrity talks to fans while providing a variety of entertainment. It was Rain’s first in more than four years, and turnout was heavy and international, with 1,300 translation devices on hand for the audience.

Rain’s longtime friend, comedian Yoon Jung-su, kicked off the event.

Then the celebrated Hallyu singer emerged wearing a suit, which he actually kept on for the entire show, not tearing it off to reveal his impressive abs.

Rather than focusing on performing, Rain spent most of the time talking, playing videos and showing pictures on a screen. He also had a go at speaking in English for his fans from abroad.

When asked what he was up to lately, Rain said he was “spending time rehearsing to become a better performer.” He added that he liked to read and watch movies from time to time to gain other perspectives on life.

In regard to tour plans, he said that after his November tour in Japan, he would like to tour Korea and the rest of the world and to perform shows where he could be “eye-to-eye” with fans.

As a gesture of thanks to all who came, Rain also presented some artworks he painted himself before singing a few of his hits to wrap up the night.
